Yay Warm Showers! (St Jean Port-Joli - Notre-Dame-du-Portage)

Yes, we mean actual showers that are warm ... But we also mean Warm Showers, the online community of cyclists who open their homes to bike tourists in need of a place to stay.

After a beautiful sunny morning of more breathtaking south shore views, we rode into Kamouraska, a small cottagy tourist town. Starving, we stopped at the first place we saw. Mary grabbed a menu, and as soon as we saw that the macaroni and cheese was $8, we decided our budgets could handle it. We sat down, committed, and then were explained that the place was a tapas restaurant. So, in other words, small plates priced as large ones. Despite being greasy and sweat-covered in a classy establishment, we had a nice meal with lots of coffee.

We felt really strong the rest of the day, and when we rode past our beds for the night at 2pm, we decided to pop into Riviere du Loup for fun. Or as Mary named it, Riviere of nice Butts. The town is on a mountainside, so walking to work keeps you extremely fit. We had a nice couple of hours, riding around and eating bakery goodies.

Our night with our Warm Showers hosts, Pascale and family, was great. Her two children were so adorable, and we got to hear all about her biking adventures with her partner Philip. They also gave us some good advice on routes to take and where to stop on our next day. They had an elevated house that looked out over the Saint-Lawrence and gave them a glorious view of the sunset through their window walls. National Geographic has apparently named it the second best sunset in the world (after Hawaii). We camped on their forested property after a big brown hare welcomed us to the site.
